CDMC. Accessibility

The pages of the Centre for the Dissemination of Contemporary Music (CDMC) have been designed and programmed in an endeavour to offer the best user experience to all kinds of people.

Accessibility to these pages, pending a future European regulation, has been studied and determined by bearing in mind the recommendations of the WAI, as enshrined in Version 1.0 of its Content Accessibility Guidelines.

In practice there have been a number of improvements to enhance the accessibility of the CDMC web-site, among which we might highlight the following:

Use of title attributes for links and alt attributes for images.
The script can be disenabled without diminishing content functionality or presence.
The fonts employed have relative dimensions, which enables users to control their size by means of the navigator they happen to be using.
Visible tools are available that are not dependent on the navigator in order to increase and reduce the size of the textual content.
Semantic and standard web pages (XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.0).
Visualisation of contents in logical and well-structured order for voice navigators, without styles, without javascript, plug-ins and even without images.
Design featuring colour contrasts and dynamic information adapted to users with visual disabilities.

However, the guidelines presented by WAI are non-specific and somewhat outdated. Some of the guidelines proposed are either impossible to follow or fail to adapt to the current situation. As an illustration, we recall the impossibility of achieving Triple A as confirmed by all experts.

The CDMC's web pages have, therefore, followed those guidelines that are truly necessary in order to ensure accessibility. They do not follow other more controversial guidelines, such as Points 9.5 or 11.3.
